SAN JOSE, California: Adele may be one of pop music’s biggest stars, but she says her fame and fortune didn’t prevent her credit card from being declined at an H&M store.
London’s Daily Mirror reports that Adele told concertgoers at a show in San Jose, California, that her card was declined at the fashion retailer earlier that day. She says, however, that she was able to make some purchases with the card at a Sephora makeup store.
The Mirror says Adele told the crowd nobody recognized her but she was nonetheless “mortified.”
“Nobody knew it was me, but I was mortified,” Adele added, before revealing that her pet dachshund, Louie, also got into a scrape while out.
“Then my dog tried to claw another dog. My trip to H&M was great ... but no one knew it was me so I think I’m going to get away with it.” she continued.
The playfully confession came as news broke earlier that Adele had been snubbed for a Mercury Music Prize in 2016.
Adele kicked off her US dates earlier this month in St. Paul, Minnesota and will wrap her world tour on November 15th in Mexico City.
She released her third album, 25, on Nov. 20, 2015 in the US — selling over 3.38 million copies in the first week, according to Billboard.
It comes four years after her sophomore album 21 and seven years following her debut album, 19.
