RIYADH: A restaurant where 61 people suffered food poisoning after eating food has been closed down for a month, beginning Monday, in Al-Ahsa. It has also been ordered to pay a fine of SR61,000.
The action was taken on instructions by Municipal and Rural Affairs Minister Abdul Lateef Al-Asheikh. According to Khalid Al-Bohol, the spokesman of the secretariat of the ministry, the food poisoning took place after the customers ate barbecued meat at the restaurant.
The authorities checked the food samples and also collected the medical reports of the patients, he said, adding that negligence on the part of the eatery was proved beyond doubt. He said the restaurant will be allowed to re-open after one month only if it complies with the conditions laid down by the ministry. In January, Al-Mabzar municipality in Al-Ahsa, had shut down a famous restaurant after 33 people suffered food poisoning.
