JAZAN: Jazan Gov. Prince Mohammed bin Nasser has ordered the activation of emergency safety plans following two days of heavy rain and unstable weather in Jazan and its surrounding regions.
He has ordered all hands on deck to protect lives and property in the region and told his office to keep him abreast of developments as they happen.
Ali bin Moussa Zaala, spokesman for the governorate, said Prince Mohammed has been in communication with mayors of all provinces and the secretary of the region, as well as the directors of Civil Defense, road and transportation security, the health affairs directorate and the Red Crescent, in order to follow up on developments and ensure availability of adequate manpower and equipment in the field to deal with emergency cases.
Director of Civil Defense in Jazan warned of the dangers of flash floods and called on citizens and residents to stay away from valleys and sources of electricity.
Deputy spokesman for the Civil Defense in Jazan Maj. Mohamed bin Hassan Al-Samghan said rain has stopped in most of the provinces in the region, but is continuing in the highlands, threatening lives and property downstream.
He said all departments and centers of Civil Defense have been told to raise the level of preparedness, noting that most of the reports received involve the entry of rainwater in homes.
