JEDDAH: Chinese Ambassador to the Kingdom Li Huaxin on Tuesday said the media is key to bridging cultural understanding between nations.
The ambassador, who on Tuesday had a meeting with Arab News senior editorial staff, highlighted the importance of initiating two-way communications between Chinese and Saudi citizens, adding that media can play an important role in conveying the rich culture of the nations to both sides.
“We encourage the media to open channels of communications with the Chinese media who are eager to learn more about Saudi culture in particular, and Arab and Muslim cultures as a whole,” the ambassador said while briefing the Arab News staff on the developing bilateral ties between Saudi Arabia and China.
He underscored the fact that Saudi Arabia is China’s biggest trade partner in Asia and Africa, adding the two sides have been active in the past years in strengthening ties at all levels.
For his part, Arab News Editor in Chief Mohammad Fahad Al-Harthi expressed appreciation for the ambassador’s visit to the daily’s premises, stressing that the visit falls within the paper’s policy to keep open channels with the diplomatic corps in the Kingdom.
“Saudi Arabia is a very important political actor in the world and a big responsibility falls upon the shoulders of the media to highlight the Kingdom’s efforts in ensuring peace and stability in the region and beyond,” Al-Harthi said.
