RIYADH: Saudi Arabia sustained its outstanding record globally in scientific participation after winning seven medals at two international competitions this month.
The Kingdom was represented by the Ministry of Education and the Foundation of King Abdul Aziz and his Companions for Talent and Creativity, “Mawhiba,” that has again projected a positive image of the Kingdom in international competition by globally improving its rank.
The first of those awards won by the Kingdom this month was at the 57th International Mathematics Olympiad in Hong Kong from July 9 to 16, 2016, with the participation of 616 students from 111 nations, including seven Arab countries.
Saudi Arabia was ranked 41st overtaking all Arab countries by receiving four bronze medals that went to Zubair Mohammad Habibullah of Yanbu, Omar bin Tawfiq Al-Rabiah of Riyadh, Shaden Naif Al-Shamri from Hail and Majid bin Abdulrahman Almarhoumi from Yanbu.
A separate team at the 47th International Physics Olympiad held in Zurich from July 11o 17 won silver and bronze medals.
Faisal bin Fahd Al-Saif from Riyadh won the silver medal, making it the first such medal picked by an Arab student in the International Physics Olympiad.
Yazen Mohammed Majnooni from Jubail won the bronze medal and Ghada Mohamed Taha Shaalan, Riyadh, also garnered a bronze, the first Arab female students who were recognized in the history of the Olympiad.
