LONDON: Another Saudi, Assaf Hussein Al-Harbi, drowned in a lake in Minnesota, US, media reports said.
The tragedy happened after a 19-year-old Saudi youth drowned in a Malaysian lake a few days ago.
Al-Harbi was spending his vacation with other Saudi students and colleagues.
He was swimming with his friends in a small lake formed by a dam on Mound Creek.
Sergeant Ron Bentz, a local police officier, said Al-Harbi tried to swim to where some of his colleagues were, but drowned along the way.
Emergency services were called, who found him shortly after 4 p.m. (local time). Attempts to revive him failed.
Al-Harbi was studying engineering, according to Mutib Al-Harbi, one of his relatives.
The student, who was originally from Jeddah, was living in Brookings for the last two years and it was his second year of civil engineering at the university.
Talal, another relative of Al-Harbi, was with him in the park when the student drowned in the water.
He will be remembered as a nice and smart student who was active in the Saudi students’ club in Minnesota.
Family members of the deceased have requested media outlets to avoid publishing his photo.
