DAMMAM: New regulations at Saudi Aramco say the company will dismiss employees who get more than 30 points of traffic violations in one year.
The company said its employees should not have accumulative points in any one year.
By doing this, the oil giant seeks to contribute to reducing traffic accidents, which have become the prime reason for deaths among company staff and contractors.
Officials say the company has already started to apply the regulation.
There are five mechanisms to apply on the staff the administrative regulations for traffic violations accumulated in one year.
Those who exceed the 30 points within 12 months, will be dismissed in coordination with the HR department.
The new regulation means employees will have to be careful about how they drive not only inside the Aramco compound, but also outside, where points violations will be accumulated.
The traffic department, in coordination with Aramco, is sending messages to all employees informing them of the new company policy.
Over the last year, Aramco lost 14 employees because of traffic accidents; 30 others died in the last two years in car accidents, all repeat traffic violators.
For less than 10 points of violation, an employee is called for an “awareness” meeting. For 10 to 19 points, a warning is issued to the employee and the PR department sends a report to the head of administration and its deputy.
From 20 to 29 points, a second warning is issued with a similar report. With 30 points, the employee is dismissed.
