ABHA: The desalination plant in Khamis Mushait witnessed overcrowding with people waiting for six hours to get water, due to a broken pipe. A source said the reason behind the overcrowding was the shutdown of all distribution plants in Asir last Friday, because one of the pipes from Al-Shaqiq plant to Abha broke down. People went through two stages in order to get water: The first was waiting in line to get a service number, followed by waiting six hours to get the card for the water tank.
Ali Al-Shahri and Ae’d Al-Asmari, citizens, confirmed that they got their service number at six o’clock in the morning, while tanker cards were issued at one in the afternoon. Other people received their service numbers but were still waiting for the tank issuance cards.
A number of people were waiting at a door inside the waiting hall to get their water cards. Those people confirmed that they were waiting to get service numbers to wait in line again for the water cards. The plant posted a notice on the number issuance gates saying the plant’s official working hours were from 5:30 a.m., which is the time the water tanks reach the plant, and water is pumped at six o’clock.
