PISES marks annual day with zeal and jubilation

RIYADH: The Pakistan International School (English Section), Riyadh, organized its annual commendation ceremony, a magnificent event which saw school girls and boys celebrating their achievements and showcasing their talents in the auditorium of the Pakistani Embassy on Thursday. On this occasion, the PISES-Riyadh recognized the performance of its high achievers of International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and “A” Level.
The grand occasion, chaired by Pakistani Ambassador Manzoor Ul Haq as chief guest, also encouraged other students by giving away awards to the most talented achievers of the last academic year. Song and dance numbers performed by kids dressed in colorful costumes left the audience spell bound. The event was attended by about 300 parents, diplomats and a large number of PISES teachers and students.
Prominent guests included PISES chairman Sultan Ayub Meo; Sardar Muhammad Khattak, head of chancery; Brig. Shahid Manzoor, defense attache; and Muhammad Tanveer, PISES principal. At the very outset, Principal Tanveer welcomed all the guests and presented the annual report of the school. He pointed out that PISES got a 100 percent result in IGCSE and 87 percent in AS Level and 91.5 percent in A2 level that is significantly higher than international standards.
Referring to the efforts of the embassy and the managing committee to accommodate more students, Tanveer said that the PISES has started afternoon shift, in which more than 700 students have been enrolled. After the speech of the principal, a number of shields and prizes were given in four different categories.
In the category of “Top Achievers”, the students who got top positions in their respective subjects in the Kingdom and in the entire Middle East and North African (MENA) region were given shields. Haroon Ahmed Javed got top position in biology in the Kingdom as well as in chemistry Haroon topped the whole MENA region. Moreover, Ayesha Abrar Ahmed and Zainab Soomro attained top positions in Physics and ICT respectively across the entire MENA region.
In a major development, Pearson Edxcel also announced gold medal for high achievers. Among the gold medallist were Razan Aziz, Zainab Rauf, Laibah Arshad Khan, Hamza Hamid Hussain, Mariam Asad, and Hamza Naeem. Special shields were awarded to Anusha Sultan, Abdul Rehman Mustafa , Zahra Zubair and Syed Ahmad Wahaj. Cash Prizes were also given to the top achiever by Robina Faryad, a respectable community member.
The musical interludes in the form tableaux kept audience spell bound and captivated. “Welcome Song,” “Wavin’ Flag,” “Lab pe aati hai Dua,” “Tableaux on National Songs” and live singing performance of students presented the glimpses of stage activities of PISEANs. A generous applause of audience was a tribute to all performing students as well as to the teachers.
In his speech, Sultan Ayub Meo, chairman of School Management Council, congratulated all the students for their achievements and urged them to further work hard in the coming years. Meo said that the management panel is striving to purchase a land for building a campus for PISES. The chairman reaffirmed that merit will be the only criterion for admission or for employment in PISES.
At the end, Ambassador Haq made a brief speech in which he appreciated student’s hard work, teacher’s efforts and school’ achievements. A lavish dinner was also served to all guests after national anthem.
