JEDDAH: The Al-Khafji Municipality has made it mandatory for all restaurants and kitchens to indicate the types and sources of meats and chicken used by them for preparing dishes.
“The eateries must display the types of meats, including camel, cow, lamb, goat as well as chicken and fish,” Bandar Al-Subaie, head of the municipality, has been quoted as saying by local media.
“Details such as the country of origin, if the meat is frozen or chilled, freshness level, and if the products are local or not, should also be displayed.”
The municipality has indicated application of fines and penalties against violating entities. “There are inspection and monitoring campaigns of all food entities, as part of a comprehensive plan to ensure these entities are complying with the regulations, especially when it comes to manufacturing, distribution and marketing of hot and cold food products, as well as places that sell meats,” said Al-Subaie.
He said the municipality is sparing no effort in this regard, and called on citizens and residents to “pay attention to offered food products in order to avoid risks to their health and safety.”
Al-Subaie has urged citizens to report any violations by calling 940 or through the municipality’s website or social media accounts.
