JEDDAH: Eighty percent of doctors at primary level fail tests related to sleep medicine, according to a doctor from King Saud University’s college of medicine.
Ahmed BaHammam, director of the university’s sleep disorders center, said a recent study conducted by the center showed that 223 doctors were aware of the importance of the discipline but 80 percent failed the tests, a local newspaper reported.
BaHammam was speaking during the opening of an event on the discipline held at the university in cooperation with King Khalid and King Abdulaziz university hospitals.
Abdullah Al-Sakka, the medical director of King Khalid University Hospital, said in his speech that the event was important to create awareness of sleep disorders. He said the center played an important role in research on the subject. An exhibition was held on the sidelines of the ceremony, where visitors and patients could interact with doctors.
