JEDDAH: Several young men and women were arrested last week for selling drugs on social media, according to the Interior Ministry.
Maj. Gen. Ahmed Al-Zahrani, head of the Directorate for Drug Control, said the young people had used Twitter and other social media sites to sell narcotic substances, according to a report in a local publication recently. Meanwhile, Jazan Gov. Prince Muhammad bin Nasser said that it was important for the National Project for the Prevention of Drugs (Nibras) to educate the public on the dangers of narcotic substances.
This awareness should include making people understand that they must work with the country’s security agencies to help prevent the sale and abuse of narcotics. There were many drug dealers targeting the country’s young people, he said at a Nibras forum.
Prince Muhammad that the government was taking extra care to watch the border areas in Jazan because this was a gateway for smugglers. He praised Nibras for the role they were playing in taking the anti-drug message to schools and universities.
