JEDDAH: A video on the Internet has recently sparked an uproar against erring members of the Commission of the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (Haia) who are seen beating up a girl in front of Nakheel Shopping Mall in Riyadh.
The girl was reportedly lying on the ground crying amid calls from onlookers to set her free, a local daily reported.
The one-minute video showed one of the onlookers asking one of the Haia men not to “kill” the girl. The Haia man responded by saying: “Don’t worry, we are more concerned about her than you.”
The girl reportedly tried to escape but she received a kick from another person that caused her to fall on the ground.
Riyadh police said they have not received any details about the incident.
Haia spokesman Mohammed Al-Sibr said a probe was under way.
