RIYADH: King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for the Gifted and Creativity, or Mawhiba, resumed its training course during the second semester 2015-2016, as part of professional training in science and mathematics.
About 684 teachers are taking part in a 12-day 72-hour training that will last until March 9, 2016, according to Mawhiba source.
Mawhiba Deputy Secretary General Adel Al-Qaeed said the project in partnership with both private and public schools is one of the initiatives adopted by Mawhiba within its strategic plan to create quality system for 680 teachers to upgrade science and math skills.
It targets a number of government and private schools in terms of infrastructure, teaching methods, learning styles and teachers’ training.
“We aim through the project to enable teachers to implement talent enrichment curriculum, in addition to development of teachers’ performance, advanced teaching strategies and to overcome difficulties in providing relevant knowledge,” Al-Qaeed observed.
He said, under the theme “empowering talent for a knowledge-based society,” the move seeks to play its role in line with the country’s visions and development plans. It will also work to strengthen the country’s balance of intellectual capital.
The 38 sessions of training are being held in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Al-Madinah, Al-Ahsa, and Makkah, and will focus on teaching strategies at the first and second levels, the psychology of talent, and evaluation of the classroom.
According to the official, the first semester has seen 31 training courses with the participation of 342 teachers. The initiative has provided their services to 2,500 students (boys and girls) in 89 schools in different regions of the Kingdom.
It aims to increase the number of gifted students in various parts of the country.
