Saline Water Conversion Corp (SWCC) expects its water and electricity complex in Ras Al-Khair to reach full capacity by the end of March.
SWCC Gov. Abdul Rahman bin Mohammed Al-Ibrahim, who made the statement during his inspection visit to the project, said: "Ras Al-Khair project will be an important economic nucleus that increases the mobility in this promising region by providing more than 1,800 jobs for Saudi youth."
He added that the experimental operation of water production lines by reverse osmosis (RO) reached 100 percent, as well as water production units by MSF technique recorded 100 percent, while the desalination project was completed by 99 percent.
"The SWCC has supplied 760 cubic meters of desalinated water over the past 22 days," the governor said, confirming the success of the experimental operation of 11 gas turbines out of 12 units that produce electric power, as well as for four steam turbines out of 5 units, in addition to the 92 percent completion of the energy project.
Al-Ibrahim said the Ras Al-Khair Industrial City represents a promising shift in the concept of establishing mega projects, integrated investments and modern factories in the region. This is considered a unique example of the so-called comprehensive development system of geographical regions economically, socially and environmentally, according to the latest international standards.
The Ras Al-Khair Industrial City aims to take advantage of the integration of industries in the region to achieve a prosperous industrial society, provide job opportunities for Saudi youth, as well as diversify the Kingdom's economy and resources, he said, adding that the new project will contribute to develop the infrastructure to provide water and electricity to this giant investment.
The power plant in Ras Al Khair has a capacity of 1,025 cubic meters of desalinated water and 2,400 MW of electricity with investments totaling SR25 million.
