Pakistan committed to defending Saudi sovereignty

JEDDAH: Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Mohammed Asif reaffirmed his country’s commitment to defend the sovereignty of Saudi Arabia in accordance with defence agreements between the two allied nations.
Asif, in a briefing before the Pakistani Senate late on Friday, said Pakistan is seeking to play a positive role in the current crisis between the Kingdom and Iran, but would defend the integrity of Saudi territory if a threat was to emerge.
Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is due to arrive in the Kingdom to meet the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman on Monday. Sharif is due to travel on to Iran after the visit.
