RIYADH: Syria’s moderate opposition groups arrived in Riyadh on Monday in an attempt to unify their stance in preparation for future talks with the tyrannical regime in Damascus.
The Kingdom is hosting Tuesday’s conference in response to global wishes.
The meeting is coinciding with the 36th summit of the GCC to form a united negotiating team and open a number of channels to coordinate in the fight against terrorism, especially Daesh.
George Sabra, president of the Syrian National Council, said that the outcome of the meeting would be presented at the Gulf summit.
Sameer Al-Nashshar, a member of the Syrian National Alliance, said: “The Riyadh conference will set a new course. The conference will become the key reference point in the future.”
Sources said the participants are around 100 figures and are compromised of different opposition factions.
One key figure is Louay Hussein, who is the cofounder and president of Building the Syrian State, a political movement that brings together individuals from various ideological backgrounds.
Abdullah Al-Moallami, the Kingdom’s envoy in the UN, earlier said his country was willing to help the Syrian opposition to come up with “one view” on Syria.
