ANKARA, Turkey: Turkish media reports say a 20-year-old man has been hospitalized after shooting at police guarding an Istanbul residence of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, then turning the gun on himself.
The state-run Anadolu Agency says the man argued with police outside the residence on Monday before snatching a gun from one of the guards, firing at police and then shooting himself in the head. No officers were hurt.
The Dogan news agency said the man, who had a criminal record, had asked to enter the residence. Erdogan, whose ruling party won a majority in Sunday’s parliamentary election, was not there at the time.
Dogan said the man was in life-threatening condition.
