Fiorentina back on top of Serie A

ROME: Fiorentina recaptured top spot in Serie A from Inter Milan on Sunday with an emphatic 4-1 victory over Frosinone that sees them temporarily lead the league ahead of Napoli’s clash with Genoa.
Paulo Sousa’s men grabbed all their goals in the first half, comfortably dominating the newly-promoted minnows at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
The Portuguese coach opted to make several changes to his starting XI, resting leading scorer Nikola Kalinic in order to allow Mati Fernandez to play behind Khouma Babacar.
Frosinone handed goalkeeper Massimo Zappino his top flight debut, and the Viola would ensure he was heavily involved in the action.
Yet after making an early save from Babacar, the 34-year-old was unable to prevent a cross from Ante Rebic bouncing in off the frame of his goal following a deflection.
If there was some fortune to Fiorentina’s opener, there was little doubt of the quality of the second as Gonzalo Rodriguez netted with a sublime back-heeled effort.
Babacar would get on the scoresheet with a chipped penalty before Mario Suarez stole the ball and slotted past Zappino with ease.
After the break, Fiorentina understandably eased the pressure on their mismatched opponents, eventually allowing Frosinone midfielder Alessandro Frara a late consolation goal.

Inter, Juventus win

On Saturday, Inter Milan beat AS Roma 1-0 thanks to a Gary Medel strike while Juventus returned to winning ways with a last-gasp Juan Cuadrado goal securing a 2-1 triumph over local rivals Torino on Saturday.
Stevan Jovetic set up Medel who hit a low drive from outside the area after 31 minutes to give Inter the lead.
Roma’s Mohamed Salah and Edin Dzeko missed chances and the visitors’ miserable night continued when Miralem Pjanic handled after 73 minutes and was dismissed for a second yellow card.
The defeat ended Roma’s five-game winning streak, leaving them in second place on 23 points, one behind Inter who recorded their seventh clean sheet of the campaign.
