UNHCR hails Saudi aid for Syrians

RIYADH: The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has praised Saudi Arabia for providing extensive aid to the Syrian people, including at the Zaatari Refugee camp in Jordan and food through the World Food Program and the United Nations Children’s Fund.
This was contained in a letter of thanks written by Hovik Atmesian, the coordinator of the United Nations aid project at the Zaatari Camp. He said the Kingdom was providing assistance through committees and other means to refugees and victims in various countries affected by war and disasters, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
Meanwhile, the Muslim World League (MWL) in Makkah has appealed to the UN, international community, Arab and Islamic countries and human rights organizations to intervene urgently to help Syrian refugees.
Abdullah bin Abdul Mohsen Al-Turki, MWL secretary-general, said in a statement that the organization has followed with great sorrow the sufferings of Syrian refugees during their escape from their country as they drowned in the sea and ill-treated in some countries.
