Saudi Binladin Group, main contractor for new King Abdul Aziz International Airport (KAIA), Jeddah, and Vanderlande, Saudi Arabia branch, have announced the completion of the final section of the Baggage Handling System for new King Abdul Aziz International Airport, reaching an overall length of 33 km, allowing the handling of larger numbers of baggage with greater efficiency and higher speed to achieve the handling capacity of 30 million passenger per year at the new airport.
Saudi Binladin Group stated that the new BHS system is managed through advanced electronic systems, which convey baggage from the initial point at the check-in counters up to the airplane within the minimum timeframe, in addition to achieving full automated control without human intervention. This system is considered one of the largest BHS installations in the world, allowing complete protection to passengers’ baggage from loss and damages due to the high level of control and flexibility of the system.”
Vanderlande stated that facilitating the operation of baggage transfer using the most advanced technological solutions, is necessary to increase the level of service provided at the airport, with a handling capacity of 6,700 bags per hour for departures, 9,700 bags per hour for arrivals, as well as 3,600 bags per hour for transit. This achievement reflects our commitment to provide the best service to achieve a “world-class travel experience.”
