Huge fire in car junkyard

JEDDAH: A massive blaze with plumes of black smoke engulfed the Tashlih ( car junkyard) in the Briman area of the city, giving the firefighters a tough time, on Saturday. Nobody was, however, injured in the incident.
Col. Saeed Sarhan, spokesman of the Civil Defense forces in Makkah, said the total area of the complex is 1,700 square meters and that the fire spread to an area of 300 square meters.
“Rescue teams had to open passages to assist firefighters in reaching the central part of the junkyard, where the fire had started and was spreading fast. The teams succeeded in contain the fire following an hours-long operation,” he said, adding that cause of the fire was being investigated.
Col. Ghazi Al-Ghamdi, head of the Civil Defense of Jeddah, coordinated the operation in the presence of police department, traffic control unit, Red Crescent, Saudi Electricity Company officials and the Jeddah mayor.
