JEDDAH: Insan Charitable Society for the Care of Orphans in Riyadh is distributing zakat to orphans via prepaid e-cards.
The society will purchase zakat in-kind for beneficiaries, and distribute it to more than 40,000 orphans and widows on the 29th of Ramadan, the night before Eid. Distribution will be through these e-cards.
Earlier, Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Motlaq, a member of the Senior Council of Scholars, had issued a statement saying that this method reduces the burden on both the association and its beneficiaries.
Previous methods of distributing zakat were troublesome for many charity organizations, as distribution of rice was random and unorganized, and was often distributed to unregistered beneficiaries. Distribution often required beneficiaries to wait in long lines, causing embarrassment. Many of these issues will be solved with the new approach, including preserving the dignity of beneficiaries as they receive their zakat.
This year, those interested can pay zakat of SR20 per person by contacting (920001133), by visiting one of the charity’s branches, or by making a direct transfer to the society accompanied with a fax to the number 014920184 or a WhatsApp message to 0550933228 indicating the amount.
