KSA ‘determined to confront’ Iran designs

AMMAN: Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir said on Thursday his country was determined to confront Iran's internal meddling in the affairs of Arab states.
In a joint press conference in Amman with Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh, Al-Jubeir noted that Iran is a neighboring country that has a rich history and culture. “We respect that, and want relations with Tehran to be built on joint respect.”
Al-Jubeir added: “Saudi Arabia is working to confront Iran's trouble-making activities in the region. We are determined that Iran should not have a negative intervention in the region or in Arab countries.”
He said Saudi actions had helped reduce the interference of Tehran and its regional clout in Yemen and other countries.
“The work we are doing to confront Iran's influence has achieved successes in several countries and we see the presence of Iran has shrunk in some areas in Africa and Yemen,” Al-Jubeir explained.
Al-Jubeir also called for Iraq's Shi'ite-led government to accelerate political reforms in order to give Sunnis more say in running the country and end the “hegemony” of Iran there.
Riyadh and Amman also discussed the talks between Tehran and the P5+1, as the negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program are in their final stages, according to Judeh.
Both ministers said Riyadh-Amman ties are “deep rooted” and can never be described as tense.
Al-Jubeir, who is visiting Amman for the first time since becoming the foreign minister, stressed that Jordan is a very important ally for Saudi Arabia.
Al-Jubeir and Judeh emphasized the importance of resuming Palestinian-Israeli talks within the framework that leads to the two-state solution. They also discussed the two countries’ efforts to counter terrorism and extremism.
