JEDDAH: A 300,000 square meters sports park with 2,500-meter-long walkway, with state-of-the-art facilities for cycling and physical exercises, have been opened in Yanbu.
Alaa bin Abdullah Nassif, chief executive of the Royal Commission in Yanbu, inaugurated the facility, which meets international standards.
"The park is a part of the second phase of the development program to provide greenery in the city with facilities for walking, running and quality exercise," he said.
The park also has around 80 signboards with information on the park areas and different facilities.
Saleh bin Abdullah Al-Zahrani, general manager of operations and maintenance, said that the sports park is one of the most beautiful sites in Yanbu Industrial City and the residents and visitors will surely enjoy the natural ambience.
Hamza Khosh, director of the afforestation and irrigation department, said all stages of construction, besides planting 5,500 trees and palms, 25,000 jasmine, rose and other flowering plants, have been done in the 175,400 square meters landscape turf.
The project also has a football field, volleyball and badminton courts, along with other health facilities that 50 people can use at one time. The park has enough seating place and drinking water availability.
When the park was being decorated with chess sculptures of 90 cm each, the project included 12 walls devoted to amateur free drawing for different age groups.
