Expatriate arrested for harassing Makkah woman

MAKKAH: The police in Makkah recently arrested a Pakistani citizen for allegedly blackmailing a university student living in Madinah.
The man, who is in his 30s, had allegedly made contact with the woman on Twitter posing as a Saudi who wanted to marry. They exchanged phone numbers, pictures and love letters, according to a report in a local publication.
She told him several times that he had to ask for her hand in marriage but he refused to do so. When she tried to break off the relationship, he threatened to publish her pictures if she refused to give him money.
This is when she approached the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (Haia) to assist.
The police, with the assistance of the Haia, arrested him. The matter has now been referred to the police.
