This is with reference to the report “Qatif culprits can’t escape” (May 25). We are confident that the Saudi authorities will leave no stone unturned to nab and punish the culprits behind the heinous attack on the mosque in Qatif.
I also read with interest the article “Qatif is pride of Saudi Arabia” (May 25) by Abdulateef Al-Mulhim. The writer has beautifully represented the sentiments of all Saudis and expatriates living in the Kingdom. Saudi Arabia is one of those blessed countries of the world where sectarianism is nonexistent. I agree with the views expressed by the writer that terrorist organizations such as the self-ascribed Islamic State and its likes will never succeed in driving a wedge between Saudis. Undoubtedly, the Saudi forces are fully capable of foiling terrorist attacks and protecting the Kingdom and its people.
Late Ted Kennedy’s son, Patrick Kennedy once said, “Terrorism is a psychological warfare. Terrorists try to manipulate us and change our behavior by creating fear, uncertainty and division in society.” All the reports clearly indicate that the unassuming Muslim youth have been duped into believing that carrying out suicide missions guarantee a person’s entry to the Paradise. There is a great need to counter this ideology by waging an intellectual battle against these organizations. Our religious scholars and other intellectuals should spread the true message of Islam, which does not sanction the killing of innocent people.
Deviant groups are distorting the concept of jihad or holy war. We need to turn the tables against them. Fighting these groups needs a concrete strategy, which should include security measures and intellectual fight. — S.H. Moulana, Riyadh
