Huge fire hits car graveyard

JEDDAH: A huge fire gutted the Tashlih automobile market or car graveyard in Jeddah on Sunday.
Col. Saeed Al-Ghamdi, spokesman of CDD in Jeddah, said 24 firefighting teams supported by helicopters put out the massive blaze that gutted vehicles on 3,000 square meters. A probe has been launched to ascertain the cause of the fire that started at 12:20 p.m. No one was hurt in the fire that was fueled by petroleum remnants and winds.
“The firefighting units in Jeddah were supported by units that arrived from Makkah and Jamoom,” said the spokesman.
Traffic police, patrol police, Red Crescent and Jeddah Municipality joined the massive operation against the fire. Its thick plume of black smoke could be seen from most parts of the city.
Bloggers called upon authorities to take action to prevent the increasing number of fires in Jeddah and other parts of the country.
