A citizen here has filed a complaint with the police because a local bank confiscated his car that contained his identity documents and bank cards, which it now refuses to return.
Ibrahim Al-Abdulwahab said he bought the car through the bank on a lease-to-own plan and admitted he failed to make payments for three months because he ran into financial difficulties, according to a recent report in a local publication.
He said he was surprised to find the car had suddenly disappeared from the front of his home without prior warning, causing him to believe it had been stolen.
After an extensive search, he discovered the car had been taken by the bank. He said he went to the bank and asked for his cards but bank officials refused to return them unless he signed a statement saying he had brought the vehicle back to the bank.
He said he proceeded to file a complaint at a local police station but has still not received his personal documents.
Col. Ziad Al-Raqeeti, spokesman of the Eastern Province police department, said Al-Abdulwahab filed a report at the Al-Jafr station against a representative of a local bank for repossessing the vehicle without his knowledge.
He said police officials have been in contact with the bank to seek a solution to the matter.
