Expo, cultural activities to mark Europe Day gala

A delegation of the European Union (EU) has lined up various activities and opened an exhibition in the National Museum at King Abdulaziz Historical Center to mark Europe Day on Thursday.
The EU celebrates the month of May for peace and unity in Europe, which begins with Europe Day. It is organized every year in the Kingdom in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and Information and the National Museum.
“Europe Day is an annual occasion to celebrate the “Schuman Declaration,” which was made on May 9, 1950, and considered as the first ever official document paving the way for the birth of the EU,” said a European diplomat.
The event has been named after then French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman, who is the architect of the EU.
The annual event kicked off in the presence of European Union Ambassador in Riyadh Adam Kulach and senior officials, diplomats, intellectuals and representatives from local authorities.
Seven members of the EU are taking part in the exhibition this year, under the theme “European explorers in Saudi Arabia”. The event features a number of cultural events and activities including a display of a number of photos taken by the Europeans who visited the Kingdom within their universal exploration journey.
The month-long event will include a symposium in which European academics will take part, besides a music concert, which will reflect on different cultures of Europe, especially from Italy, Spain and Poland.
The other programs planned, in addition to this, are Saudi folklore shows and distribution of leaflets about the EU.
