King, Romanian PM discuss regional security, terrorism

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman met with Romanian Prime Minister Victor-Viorel Ponta in Ryadh on Thursday to discuss regional security and terrorism issues, and aspects of bilateral cooperation in various fields. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) for closer cooperation in education between the Kingdom and Romania was also signed during the meeting.
"The conflict in Yemen featured prominently in the discussions between the two leaders," said Mihai Coman, charge d'affaires at the Romanian Embassy. "King Salman and Ponta discussed a range of bilateral and regional issues, with a special focus on avenues for possible cooperation in the fields of energy, economy, agriculture and medical tourism," said Coman. The talks also focused on boosting political and diplomatic dialogue more generally.
The talks were attended by several high-ranking Saudi and Romanian officials. Prominent among them were Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif, deputy premier and minister of interior, Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, minister of commerce and industry, and Adel Al-Toraifi, minister of culture and information.
A meeting of the Saudi-Romanian Parliamentary Friendship Committee was also held on the sidelines of the visit. This was attended by several Shoura Council members and some 10 Romanian parliamentarians, who are accompanying Prime Minister Ponta. This was in addition to many separate bilateral ministerial meetings organized by the two sides throughout the diplomatic visit to boost cooperation in multiple areas.
Coman noted that "Ponta's visit to Riyadh represents an important milestone for both countries, because 2015 marks the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Romania and Saudi Arabia." The Romanian delegation will travel to Qatar on Friday before traveling to Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.
