Saudi team supports key safety initiatives at DGCA meeting

A Saudi delegation headed by Sulaiman Al-Hamdan supported key safety initiatives at the third meeting of the directors general of civil aviation for the Middle East (DGCA-MID/3), which ended in Doha on Wednesday. The meeting is designed to contribute to promote aviation safety in the region.
The delegation included the executives of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) as well as the newly established Aviation Investigation Bureau (AIB). The Kingdom has shown that it is keen to continue to promote aviation safety, improve regional coordination and taken it upon itself to host seminars and workshops for various states of the region in the interest of safety.
The Kingdom under the aegis of the AIB will be offering specialized aviation seminar workshops for which states of the region have been invited to participate.
The workshop on investigation management in Jeddah, being held from Oct. 25-29, is a practitioner-oriented one in aircraft accident investigation and prevention designed specifically for those who will be investigators in charge (IIC) or who will have to manage or participate in accident investigations in a variety of settings and situations ranging from small local accidents to large international settings.
A second Jeddah workshop will be on quality and integrated management systems from Nov. 22-26. Regulatory requirements prescribe a comprehensive approach to a management system encompassing safety management, compliance monitoring and fatigue risk management elements, which will include all the organization. This training course introduces safety experts and investigators to prescribed integrated approach.
The AIB is an independent government organization reporting directly to his the chairman of the GACA board. The office of the director general of the AIB discharges the executive and administrative functions of the AIB. This office further provides overall leadership for the management of the agency, including production, strategy and support functions.
