Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman has issued a royal order relieving Ahmed bin Aqeel Al-Khatib, minister of health, of his post.
He also appointed Minister of State and Cabinet member Mohammed bin Abdulmalik Al-Sheikh, as acting minister of health.
The king decreed that competent authorities should implement this royal order, according to SPA.
Al Arabiya reported that a recently leaked video involving Al-Khatib in a squabble has been a hot topic in the Kingdom.
The report said that Al-Khatib was filmed having a heated argument with a citizen, in which he was shouting and making angry gestures.
In the 27-second video, the former minister is seen loudly dismissing the visibly angry citizen who had come to speak to him about the state of a private hospital in Riyadh.
Prince Mohammed bin Salman, minister of defense and chief of the royal court, has instructed authorities to immediately send the father of Bandar Anzi, who appeared in the video clip with the former health minister, to Germany for treatment.
The incident generated many reactions on social media with one Twitter user, @ghazy188, writing: “Health minister sacked after neglecting the health of a citizen. Thank you King Salman.”
