Rem, Condes, Santuyo winners at Christer Rem Sibug Maasalama Golf Tournament

For the past month or so the string of victories never seemed to end for this talented young golfer even at a farewell tournament the FGA gave in his honor at Dirab Golf & Country Club last Friday.
At the Christer Rem Sibug Maasalama Golf Tournament the 16-year old son of FGA immediate past president Resty Sibug emerged Class A (0-9 handicap) champion on 71 from a gross score of 80 and handicap of 9. Veteran Alex Arellano was runner-up on 86 (91-5).
Eastern Province-based Chito Condes was the Class B (10-18) winner on countback from Danny Naval after both golfers of identical handicap of 18 tied on 65 from a gross score of 83. FGA President Joe Vallado took third place on 69 from a gross score of 87 and handicap of 18.
Benjamin Santuyo parlayed his solid game to a net 67 and victory in Class C (19-28) where his playing partner, Noel Alipoyo, claimed the first runner-up via the countback from Alex’s nephew Jeff Arellano to end a long drought in what seemed like eternity.
Santuyo played off 20 handicap, while Alipoyo, senior cameraman with OR Madarat, and Jeff carried 21 and 28 and were tied on 71.
Alex took home the longest drive award and Rem the nearest to the pin plum.
The awarding ceremony took place at the Dirab Villas where the winners were presented with Bohemia crystal trophies.
A second generation member of the Filipino Golf Association and arguably the most exciting young player, Rem, 16, in his speech, thanked everyone for helping him develop into a fine golfer that he is. He said he will be forever grateful, as he also made special mention of the best support system he could ever have — his parents. Rem is leaving the Kingdom Friday on an exit-only visa to pursue his college studies in his native Philippines.
For his part, proud father Resty said he appreciates the preparation, time, effort and the camaraderie at the FGA family. Resty’s wife, Ann, also thanked the FGA.
An overnight affair, the event was an occasion for FGA members and their families to spend quality time together. Food and drinks and laughter were aplenty.
