Dunes International School (DIS), Alkhobar, held the 4th annual Sports Day function at its sports pavilion recently.
Sarah Abdul Aziz Al-Essa, chief director of the Girls Education Board in the Eastern Province, inaugurated the girls Sports Day event. The boys Sports Day function was earlier opened by Saad Al-Turaikki of Saudi Aramco and Awad Al-Qahtani, who was the guest of honor.
“Dunes always encouraged the importance of games and sports to be an integral part for all-round development of the students and prepare them to compete at a global level,” said Principal D. Manon.
“Since the Ministry of Education sanctioned sports for girls in private schools in May 2013, our school has broadened the sports facilities to be provided to our students, especially girls. The overwhelming enthusiasm seen among our students is a result of the encouragement they received in aid of the facilities and the guidance of the teachers in charge,” said Amjad Khan, the DIS director.
The Sports Day opening preceded the torch lighting ceremony with the chief guest releasing white pigeons to symbolize love and peace.
The Dunes School band led the march past of the four houses of the school.
Nearly 3,000 parents witnessed the performances of the KG children’s drill display as well as the track events of the primary and secondary sections.
Dignitaries, educationists from various schools and managing committee members were among those present.
The success of the event resonated the joint effort of the directors, principal, headmistress, the physical education team and the entire teaching and non-teaching staff.
Nadeem Tarin, founder and chairman of the DIS, extended his compliments to all the winners and participants, and lauded the efforts of the school directors, teaching and non-teaching staff members, and the parent community.
Danish Rahman, Ameen Madhavan and Bilal Khawaja, representing the Dunes parent committee, said they found the event a great experience.
