Jeddah Municipality to seek vote on market design

Jeddah Municipality has recently taken the initiative to build a central fish market in the historic Balad district in downtown Jeddah which will serve both as a market and a tourist destination for visitors to the area.
Hani Abu Ras, Jeddah Mayor said in a statement: “The Jeddah Municipality is intending to build a state-of-the art complex which will house the fish market and also serve as a leading commercial center in the city.” He added that the central fish market built to world standards will be located near the Municipality and will also be a tourist destination for residents and visitors.
He stated that the new complex will be built over an area of 37,000 sq. meters on the land where the old fish market is located.
In a bid to involve citizens in the building of the new fish market the municipality has launched a unique feature of having the public vote for a design proposed for the central fish market which will not only be a hub for marine products but will also serve as a large commercial center with recreational activities.
“The public can now vote for their favorite design among three selected designs for the Central Fish market in Jeddah,” the mayor announced on Wednesday.
He said that so far the municipality had registered 3000 votes from Jeddah’s residents but wanted more people to participate in finalizing the design.
The images and video clippings can be viewed on Jeddah Municipality’s website http://www.jeddah.gov.sa/Amanah/Projects/FishMarketVote/index.php and visitors can also use the link to vote for their favorite design. Voting is open until Oct. 19 (Sunday).
