Makkah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Abdullah has expressed his condolences on the death of Dr. Soliman Fakeeh, a renowned Saudi physician and founder of Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital, who died at the age of 85 on Wednesday.
Prince Mishaal, who visited the family’s residence in Jeddah on Friday, conveyed his condolences to Fakeeh’s brothers Abdul Rahman and Omar and his sons Dr. Mazin and Ammar, and prayed for the late doctor’s eternal salvation. The family thanked the governor for his gesture.
Fakeeh was buried in Makkah on Thursday after funeral prayers at the Grand Mosque.
Born in Makkah in 1931, Fakeeh obtained his medical degree from Egypt. He began his career by opening a clinic in Makkah in 1961 before becoming the director of Ajyad Central Hospital and Makkah Maternity Hospital. He has worked as the deputy director general of health affairs in Makkah region and director general of health affairs in Jeddah and the western region. He founded Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital in 1978.
Culture and Information Minister Abdul Aziz Khoja said Fakeeh’s death was a big loss. “He was a good example for a hardworking person. He was able to make several achievements in the health sector,” said Khoja. Labor Minister and acting Health Minister Adel Fakeih noted the late doctor’s humanitarian services.
Abdul Rahman Al-Asheikh, who has been closely associated with Fakeeh, said the late doctor had worked hard to enhance the hospital’s reputation by recruiting highly experienced doctors and specialists and acquiring the most advanced medical equipment and facilities. “His patients were happy with him as he treated them with profound care and concern,” he said. “He dedicated his life in the service of medicine and patients,” he added.
Mazen Balilah, another friend, commended Dr. Fakeeh’s contributions to strengthen the Kingdom’s health sector by establishing one of the world-class hospitals in Jeddah.
