27 shops gutted in Dammam public market

Civil Defense teams put out a fire that gutted 27 shops and all the stalls at Dammam’s public market yesterday.
“Although the entire scene was gutted, there were no deaths or injuries,” said Col. Ali Saeed Al-Qahtani, Eastern Province Civil Defense spokesman.
“The blaze had broken out in stalls and shops made of metal sheets and the shops were full of furniture. These shops spanned an area of 50 to 80 meters.”
“The wind’s speed exacerbated the flames and 17 Civil Defense units contained the fire,” he said. “Investigation is ongoing into the cause of the fire.”
Fahd bin Othman Al-Ghamdi, the official spokesman for the Saudi Red Crescent Authority in the Eastern Province, confirmed that two ambulance teams and an advanced-aid team were dispatched to the site.
“We received a report at 1:37 p.m. from the Civil Defense of a huge fire at Dammam’s public sale shops along King Khaled Highway,” he said.
