700 bus stations planned for Dammam, Qatif

Dammam and Qatif would have 700 bus stations when the Eastern Province's public transport system is complete, according to the region's mayor.
Fahad bin Muhammad Al-Jubair said here recently there would also be 16 stations where commuters can switch between buses and trains. There would be 7,000 parking lots at the stations.
This information was revealed during a meeting at the mayoralty headquarters between Al-Jubair and the consultant in charge of the public transport project in Dammam and Qatif.
Jamal bin Nassir Al-Mulhim, the mayor’s deputy for reconstruction and projects, Abdullah bin Ali Al-Qarni, the mayor’s deputy for services, and several of the mayoralty’s general managers were present at the meeting. There were also representatives from the Ministry of Transport in Riyadh and Eastern Province road security department in attendance.
The officials at the meeting watched a presentation on the transport project, which outlined the feasibility, costs, design and bus and rail routes.
Al-Jubair said the mayoralty would soon establish a company commissioned by the Council of Ministers to manage the project. Work has started on training local companies and contractors, and the project would be put out to tender.
