Bidding adieu to Riyadh, Pakistan’s Ambassador Mohammed Naeem Khan said that he had tried to do his best to serve his country and his community in Saudi Arabia.
Khan made these remarks at a function held in his honor at the Riyadh Palace Hotel on Sunday to mark the end of his tenure. The event was attended by a galaxy of diplomats and well-wishers.
Khan, however, will stay in Jeddah as he has been appointed as the assistant secretary general of the Jeddah-based Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Khan thanked the leadership of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan as well as the OIC member states for electing him as the OIC assistant secretary-general. He said that the recent years had witnessed “remarkable progress” in the Saudi-Pakistani bilateral relationship.
“Both countries are further willing to drive forward cooperation in areas such as commerce, science and technology,” he noted.
He reflected on some of the high points of his time in Riyadh.
Khan, who served as Pakistan ambassador for over three years, holds the distinction for serving in major Pakistani missions including Washington, Beijing, Sanaa and Madrid.
The luncheon farewell was attended by scores of ambassadors and diplomats from China, Turkey, Bangladesh, South Africa, Maldives, Uganda, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Albania, Nigeria, Brunei and Singapore.
