A high level Ministerial delegation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will leave on Tuesday on a solidarity and assessment visit to the conflict-torn Central African Republic (CAR), according to an observer in the OIC.
The delegation, which includes several ministers from the member states and OIC Secretary General Iyad Ameen Madani, will be led by the chairman of the council of foreign ministers and Foreign Minister of Guinea, Lounceny Fall.
While in Bangui, the ministers will hold a series of meetings with the transitional authorities, religious leaders, international partners as well as exchange views with a cross section of the civil society on ways to end the violence and preserve national unity. The delegation is also expected to visit other key stakeholders in the Republic of Congo and Chad as part of the OIC’s overall peace initiative in CAR.
The visit is in implementation of a decision, taken by the OIC executive committee meeting held at ministerial level on Feb.20 in Jeddah, which decided to dispatch a high level delegation to CAR to assess the prevailing grave situation on the ground and to demonstrate solidarity with the Muslim community which continues to be the victim of violence and gross human rights abuses.
