Mass transit system in KSA

It is heartening to note that the Kingdom is moving ahead with its plans to have a comprehensive mass transit project. This is a very important measure and will help make lives easier for Saudis and expatriates. A modern public transport system is reflective of a country’s progress. Not only it helps protect the environment, it also improves the overall traffic situation on city roads. Saudi Arabia is a huge country and connecting cities with a rail network will help prevent accidents on expressways.
The authorities should also study the feasibility of introducing tram services in major cities. This will give a modern look to the Saudi cities. With the introduction of modern mass transit system, thousands of job opportunities will be created for Saudis. Currently people have to heavily rely on cabs. There is a fare system in place but not in use due to which cabbies charge passengers exorbitantly. With the introduction of more buses along different city routes, people will get rid of spending too much on cabs.
I request the authorities to plan modern mass transit projects in all the major cities of the Kingdom. This step will help the system in the long run in many ways. — Raheem Khan, Riyadh
