150,000 used tires seized in Riyadh

Inspectors of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry have seized 150,000 used tires from 50 shops located in Riyadh’s southern Ghurabi district, where the tires were stored and later distributed to other shops, Saudi Press Agency said.
The shops were closed down with immediate effect and those involved were recalled for further investigation and punitive action, the agency said.
Earlier, the inspectors tracked 18 pick-up cars of different sizes which were being used as mobile stores to sell the used tires under cover, the agency said.
Several houses in the area were also being used to store used tires, the agency said. However, the inspectors managed to seize the tires from these houses. In a related development, the inspection teams in Hail have uncovered a store in the city run by foreign workers who reportedly converted the store into a factory to produce certain types of dates-based biscuits.
