Basketball fans turned out in big numbers every weekend to watch and enjoy the games in the MODON-Perfetto Basketball Tournament 2014 at MODON (Saudi Industrial Property Authority) Sports Complex’s basketball court in the heart of Industrial City.
ISA President M. Eric Abrantes thanked all sponsors and participating teams for their active involvement in the event that goes a long way in fighting boredom and homesickness for basketball-loving expatriates as well as helping promote sportsmanship and camaraderie among the players.
In the second week of action, A.K . Saeed spearheaded by Joaquin and Sipada went home with the win,74-71, at the expense of another strong team U.C.I.C led by Bustamante and Encabo.
It was a ding dong battle from start to finish. The game was unpredictable up to the last minute and two veteran players of A.K. Saeed namely Villaflores and Montemor made the difference for their team.
Al Tayar 2 mentored by former basketball organizer Noel Bautista defeated Tawzea 77-66. Top gunners for Al Tayar 2 were Abulencia with 46 big points while Sandoval and Lubao each had 10 apiece. Tawzea ‘s team effort fell short with Bacalzo scoring 17 points, Pudoc 15, Diaz 14 and Parante 7.
Aquafina of team manager Al Hassan went on the rampage in their game against Label Arts to score a 55-38 win.
Luyahan was named best player of the game with 16 points. He was assisted by Henson 15 points , Pilapil and Pagkalinawan with 7 points apiece. Label Art stop scorer was Igama with 11 points that went with Agasin’s 6 and Latino’s 5.
Jamjoom Pharma managed by Lito Poras bombarded Top Stone of playing coach M. Manzo Anzo and won convincingly 88-65.
Friday, Game 1 saw Wintek start slowly in the first 10 minutes against Al Tayar 3 but was able to turn the tables on Tayar, led by Umali and Batalon with 21 and 14 points. The duo of Castillejo and Guipon each scored 14 points to no avail for Tayar, while Collado added 11 points. Umali was the best player of the game for which he received a gift from Mobily.
In the second game, Cadé Bison ran Fine Tissue ragged for a lopsided 81-58 triumph. Angeles led Cade Bison with 19 points and De La Pena had 11 points. Fine Tissue playing coach Aluery Pamplona promised that they will come back with a vengeance and with a full completement of strong players in their next game.
In the nightcap Friday, Perfetto-1 of manager Danilo Gonzales defeated Neproplast 77-72 in Inter-Company Division Group C.
It was a close game all the way. Jero led Perfetto with 24 points, Tuca scored 17, Fortes 15, Albania 11, Ameer 5, Pangapalan and Laab 4 points apiece and Allan Valeriano 2 points. Reyes tallied 21 points for Neproplast with Buenavista on 18 and Sta. Rosa 10.
