An Indian expatriate who was on his way home was found dead in a public toilet at Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport on Friday evening.
“The police station at King Abdulaziz International Airport received information from airport staff stating that a 38-year-old man had been found dead inside one of the toilets at the departure lounge,” said Aati Al-Qureshi, spokesman for Makkah police. “He had hung himself using a water pipe. There is no sign of prior injury or criminal intent,” Al-Qureshi said.
Police are investigating the cause of death with the help of the criminal investigation division and forensic teams. The victim’s body has been shifted to a morgue.
The passenger was due to fly on a Saudi Arabian Airlines flight to Mumbai. According to the General Authority of Civil Aviation, the deceased has been identified as Ayub Khan who worked as house driver.
It said the “deceased had behaved violently at the passenger departure lounge, prompting airport authorities to prevent him from boarding the flight to ensure other passengers' safety on board. Later his body was discovered in the toilet”.
In other news, an 8-year-old boy who had gone missing was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the septic tank of his residential building in Jeddah's Naseem district on Saturday.
“Police had received a missing person’s report from the boy’s Saudi parents. The victim had been missing since his return from school,” said Al-Qureshi. “The case will be referred to the Bureau of Investigation and Prosecution.”
Civil Defense teams had gone to the scene after receiving the information and had searched the septic tank, said Col. Waleed Abu Shanab of the Civil Defense.
