THE Madinah region spread over an area of around 60,000 square miles has a population of around two million. The mention of the word, Madinah, invokes the blessed memories of our Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), his great companions and the early days of Islam. Due to the presence of the Prophet’s Mosque and his burial place, Madinah is considered to be one of the holiest cities of the Muslim world.
Madinah Gov. Prince Faisal bin Salman is a highly educated and dynamic young man. He attended the King Saud University majoring in political science and did his Ph.D. in international relations from the Oxford University. After doing his Ph.D., Prince Faisal joined the King Saud University in Riyadh as an assistant professor.
In later years, he became chairman of the Saudi Research and Marketing Group (SRMG). Prince Faisal was and still is actively involved in a number of charitable and humanitarian organizations. He is chairman of the Charitable Society for the Care of Orphans and a member of the board of trustees of the Prince Salman Center for Disability Research.
Being the son of Crown Prince Salman, deputy premier and minister of defense, leadership and management skills come to him naturally. It would be pertinent to mention here that Crown Prince Salman is considered one of the top-most politicians and historians in the Middle East. With such huge and relevant experience, Prince Faisal bin Salman’s appointment as the governor of Madinah region is nothing short of a blessing.
Soon after taking the responsibilities of the region as its governor, the dynamic prince turned his attention to the youth and the untapped potential of the region. Madinah is one of those regions of the Kingdom with huge tourism potential and if carefully planned and executed, hundreds of job opportunities can be created in the tourism sector. This will greatly help boost the economy of not only the region but also the growth of the Kingdom.
The Prophet’s Mosque receives thousands of visitors every month. To cope with the growing number of visitors, thousands of different jobs can be created for the local youths.
The present day Madinah region has many historical sites belonging to the Islamic and pre-Islamic eras like Madain Saleh.
Madain Saleh is a great tourist attraction that gives a peep into the history. The rocky cliffs and interconnected mountain ranges instill awe in the hearts of the visitors and tell a million stories about the people who had once inhabited that place.
Madain Saleh could be transformed into a great tourist hub attracting visitors interested in learning more about the pre-Islamic history of the region. The area with its fair weather all around the year could prove to be an excellent place to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city life. Construction of modern hotels and rest houses could not only help create jobs but will make this place a dream destination for tourists.
In addition to the rich history, fertile land and unique folklores Madinah region has one of the most modern and largest petrochemical plants located in the city of Yanbu.
The region is also famous for its delicious dates. With the increase in the demand for processed dates, this industry could flourish a lot. With the advancement in technology, dates processing, packaging and distribution has become a lucrative industry that could also help create job opportunities for the youth of the region.
And we must not forget the region’s mint, which is considered the best in the whole world. This mint is well known and widely distributed around the Kingdom but if more modern facilities are built, then the mint could be packaged and exported as well.
Last year, this region witnessed biggest expansion in the industrial sector. The Royal Commission in the industrial part of the City of Yanbu is one of the places, which hire the top and highly educated Saudis. In the past few months we saw Prince Faisal inaugurated many educational projects for young Saudi men and women. The construction of new colleges and dormitories is a step to improve the education sector in Madinah.
With huge and valuable experience gained as a media expert, educationist and member of charitable institutes, Prince Faisal bin Salman is leaving no stone unturned to fully utilize the talent of the Saudi youths and to improve the overall infrastructure of the region and the performance of all public sector organizations.
