There is a plan to shift the First Industrial City from Dammam to the Third Industrial City which is located about 60 kilometers from Dammam.
This was discussed at a meeting attended by Eastern Province Mayor Fahd Al-Jubair, Civil Defense Director Gen. Abdullah Al-Khashman, Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME) Director Mohammed Al-Qahtani as well as MODON representatives and other engineers and officials from the EP municipality.
According to Al-Jubair, the municipality had earlier planned to clear out the area and transfer all plants out of the residential area.
The plan included stopping issuance of licenses to new plants at the First Industrial City as well as stopping renewal of licenses for current plants.
“The municipality allocated place for the Third Industrial City measuring 48 million sq. meters with official accreditation,” said Al-Jubair.
He said the First Industrial City is small in size — no more than 2 million sq. meters with 165 very hazardous plants which continually causes traffic jams on King Fahd Road.
He stressed that the deadline for the owners to move and transfer their plants out of the First Industrial City is 3/7/1436 (Dec. 24, 2014).
He said the meeting also discussed the plan to shift the hazardous plants first followed by the rest of the plants.
