Jeddah showcased as a health care hub

The Prince Sultan Cultural Center Company (PSCCC) in collaboration with Houston Methodist Global Health Care Services (HMGHCS), the global arm of Houston Methodist Hospital, Houston, will provide world-class health care facilities for both citizens and residents in the Kingdom.
The PSCCC, which showcased its Jeddah Healthcare Park project at this year’s Arab Health Exhibition and Congress in Dubai, also announced several partnerships with Linde, VAMED, Senior Assist, Alfaisal University, and MedCina in various areas of medical health. The Jeddah Healthcare Park located in Jeddah was initiated in November 2012.
Jeddah, with a population of 2.8 million people, is expected to grow at a rate faster than the rest of the Kingdom, already considered as one of the most highly populated countries in the region. With a steady increase in life expectancy, coupled with concurrent rise in the rate of chronic illnesses like diabetes and cardiovascular disease, there is a clear need for a health care hub that offers international standards of care.
Moreover, the high infant and child mortality rates in the country, besides the substantial number of deaths caused by road accidents, indicate that improvements in pediatric and trauma care are integral to achieving these standards.
The PSCCC executive committee envisioned a health care hub that will offer high-quality private health care services in Jeddah, raising the bar of health care across the Kingdom to international standards. To develop a sustainable world-class health care hub, synergistic planning, patient-centered care, and sustainability were the three main issues taken into account during planning.
Besides a tertiary care hospital, other facilities at the Jeddah Healthcare Park will include centers specializing in oncology, neuroscience, heart and vascular care as well as a diagnostics and imaging center.
“At the moment, care in the Kingdom is fragmented, with various institutions offering different levels of medical care,” PSCCC Chairman Mohamed Al-Fadl said, adding: “By incorporating primary, secondary, tertiary, long-term and rehabilitation care, and by offering patient education, the PSCCC Jeddah Healthcare Park aims to offer continuous care for patients as per international standards.”
HMGHCS will operate the tertiary care hospital, the bone and joint hospital, besides diabetes, lipids and hypertension center. In addition, it will also be responsible for ensuring quality and standard’s compliance across the Jeddah Healthcare Park.
Cathy Easter, president and CEO of Houston Methodist Global Health Care Services, said: “We aim to deliver high quality facilities, services and standards in the Park to ensure patients receive the level of care required and in accordance with the best international standards.”
The Park, which is expected to be completed by early 2018, will open with at least 650 beds, with the capacity to expand to 900 beds.
