Jawar Al-Jazirah lifts Reel & Rom Cup

JEDDAH: Unbeaten Jawar Al-Jazirah proved that they are the team of the season when they thrashed young and energetic MHS by 97 runs to lift the Reel & Rom Cup cricket league, organized by the Jeddah Cricket Association.
Jawar Al-Jazirah made first use of the wicket and put up a total of 287 for 8. Openers Shaan and Shehzad Ahmed got them off to a good start with a 60-run partnership before Shaan was dismissed. Bulk of the scoring was done by Shehzad Ahmed, who went on to make 77 runs off 39 balls. He was dismissed with the total at 103 for 3. Later, Amir Shehzad scored a quick 57 off 30, Asim 36 off 20 and Rizwan 39 off 20 balls. Safdar took 4 for 43, Shahid 3 for 51 and Nisar 1 for 55.
In reply MHA could not face the bowling of Jawar Al Jazirah bowlers and were bowled out for 190. Only Shaad (19), Ghafoor (18), Atta (17), Adil (17), Zakir (21), Valiullah 33 not out offered some resistance while other batsmen did not reach double digits. Shehzad (3 for 55), Rizwan 2 for 19. Adnan, Asim and Shaan picked up a wicket each.
Francois David, Director Technical, Reel & Rom was the chief guest and later distributed the prizes. Also present were JCA President Mohammed Iqbal, JCA Vice President Aijaz Ahmed Khan along with Nadeem Nadwi CEO of Saudi Cricket Center and Sadiq-ul-Islam, Manager Cricket Affairs Saudi Cricket Center.
Aijaz thanked Reel & Rom Management particularly Francois David for having sponsored JCA’s summer league and looked forward to a fruitful relationship in future also. He congratulated the winners, runners-up and the other teams who had participated in the league. He informed member clubs that he will do his utmost to ensure that JCA sets a high standard of cricket by providing the cricketers with better playing facilities in order for them to give their best and thereby take JCA to new heights now that JCA has been given affiliation to Saudi Cricket Center.


JCA President Mohammed Iqbal thanked David for accepting the invitation. Iqbal said it was good for JCA to have Nadeem Nadwi present on the occasion and thanked him for devoting his time despite his hectic schedule.

Francois David thanked JCA for giving Reel & Rom an opportunity to sponsor the league. He was impressed by the way in which the league was organized and appreciated the excellent efforts put by JCA committee. He also assured that Reel & Rom will do their best to sponsor one league every year. He then presented the awards to winners, runners-up and individual players

Award winners:
Champions: Jawar Al-Jazirah.
Runners-up MHA.
Best Batsman: Zia ul Haque (MHA) 445 runs.
Best Bowler: Adnan (Jawar Al Jazirah) 17 Wickets.
Best All-Rounder: Shaan Malik (Jawar Al- Jazirah) 380 runs & 15 Wickets.
Man of the Final: Shehzad Ahmed of Jawar Al- Jazirah for his 77 Runs and 3 Wickets.
Awards were also presented to Amir Gujjar, Usman, Zafar and Amir Shehzad for batting, Asim and Akbar for bowling, and Shahid Khan for all round performance. Special awards for 3 hat trick in the league were given to Mujahid, Saadique Merchant and Hasnain. Umpires Kumar Krishnan and Azam were present with plaques for their continuous support in all JCA leagues and cups to Karam Ali and Waheed for umpiring in the Reel & Rom League.
