Saudis, Emiratis join hands to mark week for disabled

Saudi students from different universities in the UAE, in cooperation with the Saudi Embassy, observed the “Disabled Week” in Abu Dhabi and Dubai coinciding with the World Disabled Day.
More than 300 physically challenged students participated in the one-week program that included exhibitions, workshops, lectures, sports and social activities.
Dr. Saleh Hamad Al-Suhaibani, cultural attache at the Saudi Royal Embassy in the UAE, said the event took place with effective participation of Saudi students along with fellow students from the UAE universities. It highlighted the spirit of friendship and brotherhood between Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
“Such mutual cooperation will help in achieving strategic partnership in all areas serving societal issues in both brotherly countries, as well as cultural, educational and social relations between the two governments and people,” he said.
He said such events encourage them and also provide an opportunity to the disabled to prove themselves, showcase their talent, build confidence among themselves show how they can serve their communities and respective countries.
He said the event was backed by Dr. Khalid Al-Angari, minister of Higher Education, Dr. Ahmed Al-Saif, deputy minister of higher education and Ibrahim Saad Al-Ibrahim, ambassador of the Custodian of Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah to the UAE, to strengthen bilateral ties and relationship.
Ibrahim Al-Dosari, president of the Saudi Students Club at Sharjah University, said it was very important that society and people support such disabled people morally and socially because their support will help in bringing about a positive change and help in solving many problems. “Besides, it will also help in overcoming obstacles faced by the disabled,” he said.
“Saudi students are striving to help the disabled, convinced that such actual practice, on humanitarian grounds, will go a long way in establishing their confidence. We derive our strength from the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and the Saudi cultural attache, which has always led us on the right path to serve our community and society. There is no difference between the disabled and the normal in realizing their dreams and accomplishing their ambitions,” he said.
